Necessary Objects?

I'm trying to pack to move from Ohio to California. Some things are definitely easier than others to choose to bring. Obviously I need my bed and certain clothing items. But what if I leave behind my stuffed cobra and all of sudden need one for an art project in California? Than I might have to pay for one... and who knows how much that could cost.
